Ball – Get Ready With Me!

I honestly sound like a broken record but this past month has been absolutely awful and completely hectic so I have neglected my blog yet again hence why this post is up so late as my ball was last month, I am unreal!!

Soooo like I mentioned in my previous blog post I have officially finished my second year of uni – I am halfway through my degree and I can’t quite believe it!! So for my last night out in Aberdeen before I moved back home I of course couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get all dressed up and go to the Business Ball. What is actually better than spending the full day getting dressed up and wearing a fancy dress that wouldn’t be appropriate for a normal night out?! It’s not something you do everyday which was all part of the fun!

The Tan

I get the absolute fear every time I apply fake tan like I feel it never goes according to plan when I want it to, however I am far too scared to leave it to someone else such as getting a spray tan as I just know it’ll turn out a disaster. St Moriz has always been my go to tan and has hardly ever let me down therefore I trust this brand and decided to stick with it for my ball. I usually use the dark shade but I feel that the medium shade makes me darker.. I don’t get why but it just gives me such a better bronzed glow than the dark one so it’s now my new fave. Luckily it turned out really well and I didn’t look completely tangoed but it gave me a nice natural glow. However I struggled SO much with my back as my flat mate had gone home and wasn’t there to do it for me.. DILEMMA! So I made my own contraption as you can see above and it actually worked pretty well, fast thinking from me!

The Dress

Finding a dress was honestly the ultimate task, I looked for ageeeees and saw nothing I liked or whenever I fell in love with a dress it was either way too expensive or sold out (typical!). I had heard that Boohoo had some nice floor length dresses so I decided to have a browse and see. I originally wanted a red dress as I had to stop myself from buying a black one as I ALWAYS wear black, however I ended up going for navy…… Not black though!! A darker option I feel is always safer as you never know when ordering online what the colour will actually come like, knowing my luck I’d order baby pink and it would end up being fluorescent neon. It was such a bargain and was perfect when it arrived – just like the picture thank god! It came with two splits which I didn’t realise until I had ordered it (probs should read the info section from now on) It also had lace cut outs at the side and the back was all lace too therefore a stick on bra was needed even though they are such an inconvenience I coped for one night.

The Face

I didn’t want to be too adventurous with my makeup as I’m far from good when it comes to makeup so I just decided to stick with my normal night out makeup but try and make it more dramatic therefore I went for a bigger winged liner and more bronzy face than usual to match how dark my tan was.

The Hair

Worst pic ever but the only close up of my hair I got lol

I had originally planned to have my hair up in a loose side bun and my intentions were good however when it came to the day of the ball I freaked out and decided that hair down was probably the safest option as it can’t really go wrong… Plus I feel that when my hair is up it sometimes looks strange in photos especially if it’s a side bun and I get a pic of the non bun bald side if you get me? Probably just me being vain but I chickened out anyway and opted for safe curls. Firstly I ALWAYS put rollers in my hair as my hair is so flat so I like to give it some volume before I curl it, my favourites are the Sleep-In Rollers however I’ve never actually slept in them cause I don’t feel they would be comfy whatsoever!! I like to leave my rollers in for as long as possible and I think for the ball they were in for about 2/3 hours which isn’t that long but they worked really well. After I remove my rollers I use my Trevor Sorbie curling wand and I use the thin barrel as I feel it gives me better curls than the wider barrel. I have yet to use the funny shaped barrel cause I’m not quite sure how you even use it as it looks kinda strange…. I then set it with hairspray and pray that it stays in the full night which it kinda did.

The Night

The night ended up being so good and I got to spend it with some of my favourite people!! I also got extremely drunk but thankfully I didn’t ruin or rip my dress or break a heel – result! It was such a good way to end my time in Aberdeen until September and I’m already buzzing for the ball next year. Eeeeeeee I also got a new flat which I am SO excited about and I can’t wait to blog about it when I eventually move in in a few months time!
